Your pipette and sample are safe with ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S.® and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S.® SealMax

ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax

Eppendorf ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. were the first tips with a two-phase filter for ultimate protection against aerosols and biomolecules. Building on the technology present in the first Dualfilter, Eppendorf expands its current ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. portfolio with a self sealing tip, the new ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax with liquid blocking technology is recommended for when you need additional protection against over pipetting. ep

Dualfilter T.I.P.S. and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax are manufactured to the highest quality standards from pure, non-recycled materials under cleanroom conditions without the use of interfering slip agents, biocides or plasticizers.

Ideally suited for methods where high sensitivity and reproducibility are essential, ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax are especially recommended for applications such as PCR and microbiology where preserving sample integrity and preventing cross contamination are critical. Read more

ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax – Determination of sample recovery rate in case of over-pipetting of water

In case of accidental over-pipetting, self-sealing filter tips provide additional protection against contamination by forming a sealed barrier upon contact with the sample liquid, preventing it from passing through the filter. The ability to recover the sample as much as possible thereafter is questionable. An investigation was carried out to determine the sample recovery rate of self-sealing filter tips following over-pipetting of water. Results show that nearly complete sample recovery is achievable using ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax with regard to water. It has the highest recovery rate and reproducibility irrespective of the filter tip size when compared with two other manufacturers of self-sealing filter tips. Similar recovery rates may be expected when working with other aqueous solutions having physical properties like water. Read more

How to Pipette Plasma in Your Lab – Finding the Right Pipette

How to Pipette Plasma in Your Lab – Finding the Right Pipette

If you’ve ever asked the question about how to accurately pipette plasma in your laboratory, then you’ll find the following information as beneficial. We recently had an inquiry requesting information about finding the most accurate pipettes for pipetting plasma samples. When working with plasma samples, the goal is to find a solution to allow you to pipette accurately without damaging the sample. In order to find the most accurate pipettes for pipetting plasma samples, you’ll need to know what volumes you will be working with for each sample and the experience your lab technicians have. Disadvantages of On-Site Calibration Service

Is the convenience of on-site calibration really worth it? While some on-site services boast about their speed and their ability to produce immediate results, finding a ‘quick and convenient’ calibration service can sacrifice your pipette’s accuracy. Cutting corners with a calibration service that does not have the correct equipment will end up costing your lab more money, time, and effort. Can your lab really afford to re-calibrate all of your instruments, re-purchase reagents, and repeat all the hours spent on the experiment? Finding a quality off-site calibration service, such as Lab, will guarantee reliable calibration of your liquid handling instruments.

CAPP Multichannel Pipettes Increase Productivity in Labs

Multichannel pipettes are one of the main ways to increase throughput and in turn drive down sample costs especially if you are working with expensive reagents. In The Secret of High Productivity in the Research Lab, Mark Beards stated that life science research is “complex, lengthy, costly, and the failure rate high.” The easiest and most economical way of increasing throughput is upgrading your labs pipettes from single channel to multichannel. Historically, most lab technicians are weary of upgrading to multichannel pipettes because of tip fit issues, weight of the pipette, and accuracy due to limited range. Hence many technicians are still using single channel pipettes today. Fortunately, lab technicians now have a pipette that solves all of those problems allowing them to be more productive and reduce their labs overall costs. Read more

The Importance of Pipette Calibration

Pipette Calibration Service by Accutek Lab Most veteran lab technicians and metrology specialists know that consistent pipette calibration allows for greater quality results and saves money on reagents. They realize that being off, even by a slight margin, can create a significant error in lab research. The average pipette typically requires calibration service at least once a year and most biotech companies do semiannual calibration. It is strongly recommended and in many cases required that each pipette be serviced by an ISO 17025:2005 accredited laboratory. ISO 17025:2005 accreditation complies with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) criteria. ISO 17025:2005 “specifies the general requirements for the competence to carry our tests and/or calibrations, including sampling. It covers testing and calibration performed using standards methods, non-standard methods, and accredited laboratory-developed methods.” Proper pipette calibration is not a hurried process, instead it is a full-service system that complies to strict and precise practices in a controlled environment to attain an accurate and dependable scientific instrument.

What is the Most Ergonomic Electronic Pipette?

ergonomic electronic pipette features - biohit picusTwo of the pipettes that claim to be the most ergonomic electronic pipette in the liquid handling market are the Sartorius Biohit Picus and Rainin E4 XLS. Why? Biohit is the creator of the electronic pipette and Rainin is the innovator of LiteTouch™ technology. Both of these manufacturers present electronic pipettes that they claim to be “ergonomic.” According to a study in Applied Ergonomics, led by G. David and P. Buckle, lab technicians who utilized manual pipettes more than 220 hours per year had more hand complaints compared to those who pipetted less. In order to alleviate hand injuries among lab technicians who are pipetting long hours on day-to-day basis – electronic pipette is the revolutionary and ergonomic solution that needs to be considered.
